Unfortunately you’ve had an accident. Hopefully, no one was hurt. Here are some tips on what to do. (You might want to print this out and put it in your vehicle’s glove box.)
Do’s
• Stop, turn the ignition off.
• If there are any serious injuries, call 911, regardless call the police.
• Turn your emergency flashers on immediately.
• Clear the road way if possible.
• Exchange names, addresses, phone numbers with other driver(s).
• Exchange insurance information with other driver(s).
• Take photos of the entire scene, damaged vehicles and property.
• If available obtain witness names, addresses and phone numbers.
• Notify your insurance company.
Do Not’s
• Move injured unless absolutely necessary.
• Discuss fault, responsibility, circumstances of the accident with other driver(s).
• Drive your vehicle if it seems unsafe.
• Sign any releases with towing companies, repair shops or insurance companies that you have not read and fully understand.
• Accept a check or cash for your automobile’s repair from anyone until you are sure it covers all necessary repairs.
